TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR SEPTEMBER THROUGH JUNE CHILDREN’S CLASSES

Effective September 2026

This School Policy explains the enrollment, tuition, attendance, safety, conduct, and participation requirements for Star Dance Studio programs. By completing registration and the required acknowledgments, the adult student or the parent or legal guardian of a minor student agrees to the provisions that apply to the student’s enrollment and participation.

1 REGISTRATION ENROLLMENT AND CLASS RESERVATIONS

An annual registration fee is required for all September through June children’s classes. Registration fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable after enrollment has been accepted by Star Dance Studio.

Submitting a registration form and paying tuition constitutes a request for enrollment. A payment receipt confirms only that Star Dance received the payment. It does not, by itself, confirm enrollment or guarantee a place in a class.

Before accepting an enrollment, Star Dance must be able to verify that:

• the registration form is complete and accurate;

• the student’s age and birthdate are consistent;

• the student meets the class’s age, level, and prerequisite requirements;

• the requested class has an available place; and

• all required registration fees and tuition have been received.

If information is missing, inaccurate, or inconsistent, Star Dance may place the registration on hold and request corrected information. The student is not enrolled and may not attend class while the registration is on hold.

Star Dance may establish a deadline for providing the requested corrections. If the family does not respond by that deadline, Star Dance may release the requested class space, decline the enrollment, and refund the payment received. Once the payment has been refunded, the student is not enrolled and may not attend the class.

Enrollment becomes final only when Star Dance sends written notice that the student has been accepted into the class. This initial confirmation may be brief. A detailed class confirmation and season reminder may be sent later as a courtesy. The later communication does not determine the date on which enrollment became final.

If Star Dance cannot accept the student into the requested class and cannot offer an alternative acceptable to the family, the tuition and registration fee will be refunded.

Once enrollment becomes final, a place is reserved exclusively for that student. Because many Star Dance classes fill quickly, accepting one student may require the studio to turn away other families. Families are responsible for confirming that school, sports, family, transportation, and other activity schedules are compatible with the selected dance classes before registering.

Tuition purchases and reserves a place for the student in a limited capacity seasonal program. Tuition is charged for that reserved place and the full season of instruction and is not based solely on the student’s attendance.

Enrollment in the September through June children’s program is a commitment for the full dance season. Students enrolled by the applicable recital deadline may be eligible to participate in the annual June performances, but performance participation is not required. Choosing not to participate does not change the full season enrollment commitment or tuition obligation.

Except for the New Student Trial Period and other exceptions expressly stated in this policy, tuition is nonrefundable after enrollment becomes final, whether or not:

• the dance season or the student’s class has begun;

• the student has attended the first class;

• the student later develops a conflict with another activity;

• the family’s school, sports, transportation, vacation, or personal schedule changes;

• the student chooses not to participate in the annual performances; or

• the student chooses to discontinue one or more classes.

Failure to attend class does not cancel enrollment or eliminate the family’s remaining tuition obligation.

1A RETURNING STUDENTS

For purposes of registration, withdrawal, and refund eligibility, a returning student is any student who has previously enrolled in a regular September through June class at Star Dance Studio, whether or not the student completed that dance season.

Returning students are not eligible for the New Student Trial Period unless Star Dance grants an exception in writing before registration. Families of returning students are expected to be familiar with the nature of the Star Dance program and must select classes carefully before completing registration.

Once a returning student’s enrollment becomes final, registration fees and tuition are nonrefundable. If the two payment option was selected, the second payment remains due even if the student withdraws or stops attending before the end of the season.

If Star Dance grants a returning student an exception to this nonrefund policy for a voluntary withdrawal when no exceptional circumstance under Section 1D applies, the student will no longer be eligible to reenroll in Star Dance classes.

1B NEW STUDENT TRIAL PERIOD

A new student is a student enrolling in a regular September through June Star Dance class for the first time. The New Student Trial Period allows the student and Star Dance to determine whether the class and the studio’s program are an appropriate fit. It is not intended to reserve a class while a family considers or rearranges other activities.

The trial period begins with the class’s first scheduled meeting following the student’s enrollment and continues for 30 calendar days. The period is based on scheduled classes, whether or not the student attends each class.

A new student’s parent or guardian may request withdrawal during the trial period by delivering a written request to the Star Dance office or emailing the studio’s official email address. Telling an instructor or failing to attend class does not constitute notice of withdrawal.

If written withdrawal is received during the trial period:

• The annual registration fee remains nonrefundable.

• If withdrawal occurs before the second scheduled class, tuition will be refunded less a $50 administrative fee.

• If withdrawal occurs after the second scheduled class but within the 30 day trial period, Star Dance will retain one full month’s tuition and refund the remaining tuition paid.

• After the 30 day trial period ends, the student becomes responsible for the full September through June tuition obligation, and no tuition refund will be issued.

The New Student Trial Period applies only to a student’s initial enrollment at Star Dance. It does not apply to returning students, additional classes added later, or withdrawals caused by conflicts with school, sports, transportation, vacations, family plans, or other activities.

1C CLASS CHANGES

Requests to change from one class to another are subject to availability and studio approval. A $50 administrative fee applies to each class changed.

Star Dance cannot guarantee placement in another class. If no appropriate space is available, the inability to transfer does not convert a returning student’s enrollment into refundable enrollment.

If Star Dance determines that a student was placed at an inappropriate level, the studio may move the student to a more suitable class when space permits. The administrative fee will not be charged when Star Dance initiates the change for placement reasons.

1D CANCELLATION OR DISCONTINUATION BY STAR DANCE

If Star Dance cancels a class and cannot offer the student a suitable alternative, tuition paid for the canceled portion of the class will be refunded.

Star Dance may discontinue a student’s enrollment if studio leadership determines that the student is not developmentally ready for the program, requires support beyond the program’s scope, or presents persistent behavioral or safety concerns. In those circumstances, tuition for future unattended classes will be refunded on a prorated basis.

This prorated refund provision does not apply when a student is excluded or dismissed because of an unpaid account, repeated tardiness, excessive absences, serious or repeated misconduct, or failure by the student or family to follow studio policies. Any refund in such a case will be determined under applicable law and the circumstances involved.

1E EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES

A family may submit a written request for special consideration in the event of a serious injury, extended illness, relocation outside the area, or another exceptional circumstance. Star Dance will consider the request individually and may ask for supporting documentation. Any refund or credit granted is discretionary, does not establish a precedent, and does not alter the policy for other enrollments.

1F LATE REGISTRATION

Registration dates and deadlines are announced annually. After registration closes, a new or returning student may enroll only with prior studio approval, provided an appropriate class has space and Star Dance believes the student can catch up safely and successfully. A recital costume may not be available for a late registrant, although the studio will make a reasonable effort to obtain one.

Tuition is not reduced for classes that occurred before a late enrollment. Star Dance may offer one 30 to 45 minute private lesson for each three to four weeks of missed material. Each lesson must be scheduled by appointment and completed by the deadline set by the studio. If no mutually convenient appointment can be arranged, or the lesson is not completed by the deadline, the lesson is forfeited and has no cash or credit value. A student who cannot catch up may be moved to a lower level class.

2 TUITION AND PAYMENT OPTIONS

Tuition is charged for the full September through June dance season and is due at registration. Families may choose either:

• payment in full at the discounted annual tuition amount; or

• two payments in the amounts and on the dates established by Star Dance.

These are two methods of paying tuition for one full season enrollment. The second installment is the remaining deferred portion of the full season tuition obligation under the two payment option; it is not payment for a separate enrollment period and does not create month to month or installment by installment enrollment. Once enrollment becomes final, the family is responsible for both payments.

Except for the New Student Trial Period and other exceptions expressly stated in this policy, withdrawal, nonattendance, scheduling conflicts, or removal of a payment method does not cancel the tuition obligation. There are no tuition reductions, credits, or refunds for missed classes.

A service fee of $45 per month will apply to overdue accounts. A $75 service fee will be charged for a check returned unpaid. Future payments may then be accepted only by credit card, cash, money order, or another method approved by Star Dance. Lessons may be discontinued until payment is made.

3 ASSUMPTION OF RISK WAIVER AND RELEASE

Participation in dance, exercise, rehearsals, performances, studio events, and related activities involves inherent risks, including falls, collisions, physical exertion, and other accidental injury. These risks cannot be eliminated completely even when reasonable care and safety precautions are used.

To the fullest extent permitted by California law, the adult participant, or the parent or legal guardian signing for a minor participant, knowingly assumes the inherent risks of participation and releases Star Dance Studio LLC, its owners, directors, instructors, employees, independent contractors, volunteers, agents, and property owners from claims arising from ordinary negligence connected with participation in Star Dance activities or use of its premises, equipment, or materials.

This release does not apply to gross negligence, reckless conduct, intentional misconduct, or any claim that cannot legally be waived. The participant or parent or guardian agrees to be responsible for losses or damage caused by the participant’s own intentional misconduct or failure to follow stated safety instructions, to the extent permitted by law.

Participation requires a separate acknowledgment of this assumption of risk, waiver, and release. Each adult participant must personally provide the acknowledgment. A parent or legal guardian must provide it for every participant under age 18. By providing the separate acknowledgment, the adult participant or parent or legal guardian confirms that these terms have been read and understood and that participation is voluntary.

4 HEALTH INJURY AND EMERGENCY CARE

Students should not attend class, rehearsals, performances, or studio events when they have symptoms of a contagious illness or when a health professional or public health authority has advised them to remain home. Star Dance may ask a visibly ill student to leave and may require reasonable clearance before the student returns when needed to protect the student or others.

A student or parent should notify the studio of an injury, medical condition, allergy, medication need, or physical limitation that may affect safe participation. Instructors may restrict or modify participation when they reasonably believe an activity would be unsafe.

If a parent or guardian cannot be reached during an emergency, the parent or guardian authorizes Star Dance personnel to obtain reasonably necessary emergency assistance for the student. The family remains responsible for resulting medical or transportation costs. This authorization does not require an instructor or staff member to provide medical treatment beyond the person’s training.

5 ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance is essential because dance technique, choreography, and performance preparation build from week to week. Children are expected to attend their classes consistently. Families should review the studio calendar before scheduling vacations and other activities.

If a student must be absent, the family should notify the studio before class. An instructor may require private lessons, at the family’s expense, when missed instruction prevents the student from participating safely or keeping pace with the class.

Three or more absences in a class between September and December may require private lessons to learn missed technique or choreography. A student with more than five absences from a class or rehearsal between January and June, or two consecutive absences during the three weeks before a performance, may be removed from some or all performance numbers.

Except in a true emergency or another circumstance approved by Star Dance, a student who withdraws from one or more classes before completing the season may be ineligible for future enrollment.

6 STUDENT FIT CONDUCT AND STUDIO DISCRETION

Star Dance seeks to maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment. Students and family members must follow instructor directions, respect other students and staff, and avoid conduct that disrupts instruction or threatens anyone’s safety or well being.

Enrollment and continued participation are subject to the studio’s educational and safety judgment. Star Dance may change a student’s placement or discontinue enrollment if the student is not developmentally ready, requires support beyond the program’s scope, persistently disrupts instruction, refuses necessary corrections, or presents a safety concern. Refunds, if any, will be handled under Section 1D.

7 MISSED CLASSES AND MAKEUPS

From October through May, a child may take a maximum of two makeup classes for absences in each enrolled class. A makeup must be approved in advance, taken within 30 days of the absence, and attended in a class of a similar age or level with available space.

If no suitable class has space, the missed class is forfeited. Makeups are not available during September or June and do not apply to adult classes. A makeup has no cash value and cannot be transferred to another student.

8 TARDINESS

Students should arrive on time and prepared to begin class. A student who arrives 15 or more minutes late may be unable to participate because the student missed the warmup or important safety instructions.

Repeated tardiness may require a class change. If no suitable class is available, Star Dance may discontinue the student’s participation. Any refund will be determined under Section 1D and applicable law.

9 EMERGENCY AND CONTACT INFORMATION

Every student must have current emergency and contact information on file. Parents and guardians must promptly report changes to telephone numbers, email addresses, emergency contacts, allergies, and medical information relevant to participation. A student may not participate until the required information has been provided.

10 EMAIL NOTICES

Star Dance delivers schedules, deadlines, policy notices, performance information, account notices, and other important communications by email. Each family must provide and regularly monitor a working email address and promptly notify the office of any change.

Families remain responsible for information sent to the email address provided during registration. An absence should be reported directly to the studio office by telephone or email.

11 DANCEWEAR GROOMING AND APPEARANCE

Students must follow the published uniform and footwear requirements for each class. Required dancewear and shoes must be obtained by the third class after enrollment unless the studio approves other arrangements. Undergarments should not be visible. A student who is not dressed safely and appropriately may be asked to observe rather than participate.

Hair must be clean, neat, and secured completely away from the face and eyes so the student can see clearly and the instructor can observe alignment. Hair long enough to form a bun must be worn in a secure bun for ballet unless the instructor approves another arrangement. In other classes, long hair must be secured in a bun, braid, or ponytail as directed by the instructor. Shorter hair and bangs must be combed back or secured with appropriate clips or a headband. These requirements apply to every student.

Star Dance will provide reasonable accommodation for sincerely held religious or cultural practices and for disability or medical needs, provided the arrangement permits safe participation and effective instruction. Families should contact the office in advance to discuss an accommodation.

Students and dancewear should be clean. Shoes should be marked with the student’s first initial and full last name. Dance shoes are for the dance floor only and must not be worn outdoors. Tap shoes must be checked regularly for loose or protruding screws or nails and repaired before use.

Jewelry, face paint, temporary tattoos, distracting accessories, and strong fragrances are not permitted in class. A Star Dance warmup jacket or a fitted wrap sweater may be worn when approved by the instructor. Street shoes and other nonuniform items may not be worn on the dance floor.

12 VISITORS AND CLASS OBSERVATION

All visitors, including family members, must sign in. Observation space is limited to three visitors in the Mezzanine Studio and four visitors in the Main Studio. Stairways, exits, and doorways must remain clear.

Class observation is limited to once per month per student and must be scheduled on the sign up sheet in the downstairs lobby. Visitors must remain seated and silent, turn off electronic devices, and avoid distracting students or interfering with instruction. Minors who visit must be accompanied by an adult. There are no in and out privileges during observation. An instructor may close a class to visitors when necessary for instruction, privacy, safety, or rehearsal preparation.

13 WAITING AREAS

Parents may wait in the patio garden or downstairs lobby. Children must stay off patio railings and must not pick or damage plants or decorations. Food waste and other trash must be placed in the appropriate bins. Only water is permitted inside the building.

A dancer who will wait alone between classes for more than 20 minutes must have advance written permission from the studio office. Students under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult when waiting more than 15 minutes before the next class. Teens may wait quietly on their own.

14 DROP OFF AND PICK UP

Unless the studio directs otherwise, students enter and leave through the downstairs door and garden gate on Ninth Avenue. Children may be dropped off no earlier than 10 to 15 minutes before class and must be picked up within 10 minutes after class ends.

A child may leave the studio without being picked up by an authorized adult only if Star Dance has a current Walk Home Permission Form signed by the child’s parent or legal guardian. The permission remains subject to any conditions stated on the form and may be withdrawn by the parent, guardian, or studio in writing.

When the student leaves the Star Dance Studio premises under this authorization, Star Dance Studio’s supervision of and responsibility for the student end.

A $25 fee for each 15 minutes or portion thereof may be charged when a child is dropped off too early or picked up late without advance arrangement, except in a true emergency. If an employee must remain after the studio’s normal closing time to supervise a child, an additional $75 fee may be charged for each 30 minutes or portion thereof.

15 REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES

Students enrolled in eligible children’s classes by the annual recital deadline may be invited to participate in the June performances. Participation is encouraged but is not required. Families who choose to participate must meet all announced costume, attendance, rehearsal, account, and performance requirements.

The dress rehearsal is mandatory for students participating in the performances. A student may be removed from a performance number when absences, missed rehearsals, lack of preparation, safety concerns, or an unpaid account prevent successful participation.

16 GRADUATING STUDENTS

A graduating high school senior who has completed at least five consecutive years of Star Dance training immediately before graduation may be eligible for a graduation trophy and the opportunity to choreograph and perform a senior solo.

To be eligible for a senior solo, the student must also:

1. be currently enrolled in and regularly attend at least three hours of Star Dance classes each week;
2. have maintained the required continuity of Star Dance training during the five years immediately before graduation; and
3. complete the studio’s senior solo requirements by all applicable deadlines.

A senior solo is an opportunity offered at the studio’s discretion and is not guaranteed solely because a student meets the minimum requirements.

17 PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO

PROMOTIONAL MEDIA. Star Dance will request a separate affirmative choice from the adult student or the parent or legal guardian of a minor before using an identifiable student’s image or recording in studio publications, on the Star Dance website or social media, in advertising, or in other promotional materials. Promotional media consent is voluntary and may be declined without affecting enrollment. When consent is given, no compensation or ownership interest is provided for the permitted use.

RECITAL AND PERFORMANCE RECORDINGS. Star Dance may arrange for classes, rehearsals, recitals, and other performances to be photographed or recorded as part of documenting and producing the event. The terms governing official recital or performance recordings will be communicated separately from promotional media consent.

Families should understand that audience members may independently take photographs or recordings at public performances and that Star Dance cannot control all third party recording or distribution.

18 MISCELLANEOUS STUDIO RULES

• Smoking and vaping are prohibited inside the building and within 20 feet of entrances and exits.

• Star Dance is not responsible for lost, stolen, or misplaced personal property.

• Food and beverages other than water are not permitted inside the building unless authorized for a studio event.

• Street shoes must be removed before stepping onto a dance floor.

• Personal and contact information will be handled in accordance with the studio’s privacy practices and applicable law.

• Families are responsible for reviewing the studio calendar and announced closure dates.

SUMMER PROGRAM POLICIES

EFFECTIVE FOR SUMMER SESSIONS AND CAMPS ONLY

1 CHILDREN’S SUMMER DANCE CAMPS

ENROLLMENT AND TUITION

• Enrollment is for the entire scheduled camp session.

• Full payment is required in advance.

• The camp fee is nonrefundable and nontransferable after April 10.

• There are no prorated fees, credits, or makeups for missed camp days, including absences caused by illness, vacations, or scheduling conflicts.

ATTENDANCE AND PICK UP

Daily attendance and punctuality are important for skill development and group activities. Campers may arrive no earlier than 10 to 15 minutes before camp and must be picked up within 10 minutes after dismissal unless advance arrangements are made.

A $25 fee for each 15 minutes or portion thereof may be charged for late pickup. If an employee must remain beyond the normal closing time, an additional $75 fee may be charged for each 30 minutes or portion thereof.

DRESS AND BELONGINGS

Campers must follow announced clothing, footwear, hair, and safety requirements. Personal belongings should be labeled. Star Dance is not responsible for lost or misplaced items.

2 CHILDREN’S SUMMER SESSIONS

• Enrollment is for the full session.

• Tuition is due in full at registration and is nonrefundable.

• There are no credits, refunds, or makeup classes for missed sessions.

• Students must follow the applicable dancewear, grooming, attendance, health, conduct, and safety provisions of the general School Policy.

3 ADULT SUMMER SESSIONS

• Enrollment is for the full session as listed.

• Tuition is payable in advance and is nonrefundable.

• There are no makeups or credits for missed classes.

• Late arrival may prevent safe participation at the instructor’s discretion.

• Adult participants must accept the applicable assumption of risk, waiver, health, conduct, and safety provisions of the general School Policy.
